Everything You Need to Know About Your Photo Session (Without Overthinking It)

Whether it’s your very first photoshoot, your annual family tradition, or you’re finally booking that branding session you’ve been dreaming about, you probably have a few questions. Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

As your friendly Central Alberta photographer, I’m here to help you feel totally comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy every minute of your session. Here are some of the most common questions I get, answered with love (and a few helpful tips too!).

📸 What Should We Wear?

Great question, and one of the most common!

The most important thing? Wear what feels like you. When you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, you’re more relaxed, and that shows up beautifully in your photos.

Here are a few easy styling tips:

Coordinate, don’t match. Pick 2–3 complementary colours to tie everyone’s outfits together without going full “matchy-matchy.”

Layer up. Alberta weather loves to keep us guessing. Layers give you flexibility and texture for your photos.

Add personality. A cute hat, a cozy scarf, your favourite boots, or even a fresh bouquet, accessories bring the photos to life!

Need a little inspiration? I’m always happy to help with outfit ideas for your shoot in Red Deer, Bowden, or wherever we’re adventuring!

🌧 What If It Rains?

Ah, the unpredictable beauty of Alberta weather. If the clouds roll in, here are our options:

1. Have a backup plan. For time-sensitive or special sessions, we can book an indoor location in advance.

2. Reschedule. If you’ve got your heart set on that dreamy outdoor spot, we’ll find another day. I’m flexible and totally understand!

3. Embrace the rain. Honestly? Some of my favourite photos have happened in the rain. Umbrellas, moody skies, and spontaneous giggles = magic.

Your comfort is my top priority, and I’ll work with you to make sure your experience is still amazing.

🧒 What If My Kids Don’t Cooperate?

Totally normal, and totally okay.

As a mom of three, I’ve been there (many times). I’ll bring the patience, the playfulness, and maybe even a few silly tricks to help your kiddos feel at ease. And if chaos happens? That’s often where the best, most real moments live.

 How Long Is My Session?

I offer two options:

30-Minute Sessions – Perfect for small families, updated portraits, or when you want a quick and easy shoot with fewer poses.

60-Minute Sessions – Great for larger or multi-family groups, grads, or if you’re dreaming of multiple locations and more variety.

We’ll chat beforehand to make sure we book the time that works best for you!

🎒 What Should I Bring?

Think of this as your session survival kit! You’re welcome to bring:

• Props like musical instruments, framed photos, caps + gowns, cultural pieces, sports gear, anything that reflects you.

• Water (especially on warm days), snacks for littles, extra layers for surprise weather shifts.

• Comfortable shoes if we’re exploring one of Central Alberta’s beautiful outdoor spots.

💁 Will You Help Me Pose?

Yes! I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

I use a mix of natural posing and candid prompts to help you feel relaxed and look your best. I’ll help with small adjustments and give fun little directions that keep things light, playful, and real. And those in-between laughs and glances? That’s where the magic lives.

🖼 How Many Photos Will I Receive (and When)?

You’ll always get a minimum of 30 images from a half-hour session and 60 images from a full-hour session. But the truth is… I always give more if I can!

Galleries are typically delivered within two weeks of your session.

🐾 Can I Bring My Dog / Grandma / Bestie?

Absolutely! Furry friends, close friends, and family are always welcome. I also offer multi-family session packages if you’re planning something a bit bigger, but you’re more than welcome to bring special guests to your shoot.

 Do You Edit the Images?

Yep! I carefully edit every image in my signature True Tone style, natural, timeless, and true to life. I keep the colors beautiful and balanced, so your photos still feel like you, just a little more polished.

😬 What If I Feel Awkward in Front of the Camera?

You are not alone. I totally get it, I’m awkward in front of the camera too!

That’s why my sessions are designed to feel relaxed, easy, and fun. I’ll guide you the whole time and create a space where you can truly be yourself. And guess what? Some of the best photos come from those perfectly imperfect moments.

Bonus Tips for a Smooth Session

Arrive 5–10 minutes early to settle in and shake off the rush.

Be yourself. You don’t need to be perfect, just present.

Wear practical shoes if we’ll be exploring fields, trails, or hidden gems around Central Alberta.

Got more questions? I’m just a message away. I’d love to hear from you, help you prep, and make your photo session something you’ll never forget.

Can’t wait to capture some magic with you ✨
