Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your Photography Session

Choosing a photographer is about more than simply finding someone with a camera. You deserve to feel comfortable, confident and completely yourself throughout the experience.

Whether you're looking for a family photographer in Central Alberta, planning a brand photography session for your business, or searching for a wedding photographer to capture your day, I want the experience to feel simple, relaxed and enjoyable.

Here are answers to some of the questions I am most frequently asked.

General Photography Questions

What types of photography do you offer?

I specialize in family photography and brand photography throughout Central Alberta, and I also photograph weddings and special events.

I love capturing the big moments, the small details and everything in between. Whether we're documenting your growing family, creating images for your business or celebrating an important milestone, my goal is always to create photographs that feel meaningful and timeless.

Where are you located and what areas do you serve?

I am based in Central Alberta and serve clients throughout the region, including Red Deer, Red Deer County and surrounding Central Alberta communities.

I am also happy to travel outside of Central Alberta for the right session, wedding or event.

If you have a location in mind, simply reach out and we can discuss the details.

How far in advance should I book a photography session?

I recommend booking at least two weeks in advance whenever possible.

However, it never hurts to ask! Sometimes I have last-minute availability, and I will always do my best to accommodate you when I can.

For weddings, I recommend booking as early as possible. Ideally, about a year in advance gives us plenty of time to plan and schedule your complimentary engagement session.

How does the booking process work?

Once you reach out, we'll discuss your session, ideas, preferred location and any important details you'd like me to know.

Before your session, you'll receive information to help you prepare and feel confident about what to expect. About a week before your session, I'll send you a detailed information sheet with everything you need to know.

After your session, I'll carefully select and edit your images before delivering them in an online gallery.

Do you require a deposit or retainer?

No. I do not currently require a deposit or retainer to book your session. Session fees are due at the time of booking.

What is your photography style?

My photography style is classic and evergreen.

I want your photographs to still feel beautiful and meaningful years from now. During your session, I like to create a balance between posed images and natural moments.

I'll provide direction and prompts to help bring out genuine smiles and connection, but I also love capturing the in-between moments and little details that help tell the bigger story.

What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?

You are definitely not alone!

Most people feel at least a little awkward when a camera is pointed at them. You don't need to worry about knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. That's my job.

I'll provide guidance and direction throughout your session, help you feel comfortable and, occasionally, tell a corny joke or two. My goal is to help you relax, have fun and simply be yourself.

Some of the most beautiful photographs happen when people forget the camera is even there.

Will you help us choose a location?

Absolutely!

I am happy to recommend and choose a location for your photography session, whether you're hoping for an outdoor setting or an indoor location.

If you already have a meaningful location in mind, I would love to hear about it. Your session should feel personal to you.

What should we wear for our photography session?

I am always happy to offer guidance when it comes to choosing outfits.

However, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident. You don't need to wear something just because it photographs well if it doesn't feel like you.

Once your session is booked, I can help you think through your clothing choices and offer suggestions that will work beautifully with your location and the overall feel of your session.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Living in Alberta means that sometimes we have to get a little creative!

If the weather isn't cooperating, we can reschedule, pivot to an indoor location or embrace Mother Nature and make the most of the conditions.

We'll make the decision together based on the weather and the type of session we're planning.

Family Photography Questions

How long is a family photography session?

I offer a variety of session lengths depending on your needs.

A half-hour session is a great option for families looking for a shorter experience, while an hour-long session allows for more variety, a more relaxed pace and the opportunity to tell a bigger story through your images.

Multi-family sessions are typically an hour and a half.

The amount of time we need can depend on several things, including the number of people, the location, outfit changes, little ones and how much variety you'd like in your final gallery.

How many photos will we receive?

I don't believe in putting a strict limit on good photographs.

The number of images you receive will depend on your session, but if it's a beautiful image that adds to your story, I want you to have it.

I do guarantee a minimum number of images:

  • 30-minute photography session: Minimum of 30 edited images

  • One-hour photography session: Minimum of 60 edited images

You may receive more depending on the session and the images we create together.

What if my children don't cooperate?

Don't stress!

Honestly, you'd be surprised by how many beautiful photographs we can capture even when children are having a wild day.

I don't expect children to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera for an entire session. Kids are curious, energetic and wonderfully unpredictable, and sometimes those real moments make for the photographs you treasure most.

We'll take breaks when needed, follow their energy and lean into the experience. Even the silly, wild and chaotic moments can become part of your family's story.

Do you pose families during a session?

Yes, but not the entire time.

I'll make sure we capture those classic, everyone-looking-at-the-camera photographs, but I also love using prompts and gentle direction to create more natural interactions.

The goal is to create a gallery that gives you a beautiful mix of polished portraits and genuine moments.

Brand Photography Questions

Who is brand photography for?

Brand photography is for creators of all kinds, entrepreneurs and small business owners who need authentic, professional images to represent their business.

Whether you're building a brand from the ground up or giving your existing business a fresh look, professional photography can help you create consistent visuals for your website, social media, advertising and marketing materials.

What happens during a brand photography session?

Your brand photography experience begins with planning.

Before your session, you'll receive a client package filled with information to help you prepare. I'm also happy to discuss your ideas and help you plan the types of images that will be most useful for your business.

Your session includes a full hour of photography time and can include multiple outfit changes.

Together, we can create a variety of images that can be used for your website, social media, advertising, business cards and other marketing materials.

Will you help me plan what photos I need for my business?

Absolutely.

You might already have a detailed vision for your session, or you might have absolutely no idea where to begin. Either way, I'm happy to help.

We can talk about the images you need for your website and social media, as well as behind-the-scenes content, professional portraits and other images that will help tell the story of your business.

I'm also always open to your ideas and love having the opportunity to get creative and think outside the box.

What types of businesses do you photograph?

I love working with creators and small business owners of all kinds.

I'm open to almost anything and especially enjoy projects that give us an opportunity to be creative. If you have an idea that doesn't fit into a traditional photography box, I would love to hear about it.

Wedding Photography Questions

What is your approach to wedding photography?

I consider myself an observer.

While I'll happily guide and pose you when needed, I spend much of the day discreetly watching and capturing the moments as they naturally unfold.

Some of the most beautiful wedding photographs happen when no one realizes the camera is on them.

My goal is to capture the big moments you expect while also preserving the laughter, quiet glances, happy tears, meaningful details and unexpected moments that help tell the complete story of your wedding day.

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

I recommend booking about a year in advance whenever possible.

Booking early gives us time to get to know one another and schedule your complimentary engagement session. Most of my wedding photography packages include an engagement session, and it's a wonderful opportunity for us to work together before your wedding day.

Do you offer engagement sessions?

Absolutely!

Most of my wedding photography packages include a complimentary engagement session. It's a relaxed opportunity to celebrate this exciting chapter of your lives while also helping you become more comfortable in front of my camera before your wedding day.

Will you help us create a wedding photography timeline?

Yes!

Before your wedding, I like to sit down with my couples and talk through the details of the day.

We'll discuss the photography timeline, the photographs that are most important to you and any special people you want me to know about. I also love learning about meaningful traditions, ceremonies or fun surprises you have planned.

This conversation helps us create a photography plan while also giving me an opportunity to get to know you better.

What happens if our wedding runs behind schedule?

Weddings rarely go exactly according to plan, and that's okay.

I'll always do my best to work with the flow of the day and make sure we capture the moments that matter most. If needed, I am also willing to stay a little longer whenever possible.

Photo Galleries & Image Delivery

How will I receive my photographs?

Your professionally edited images will be delivered through an online gallery.

From there, you can easily view and download your high-resolution photographs directly to your devices.

How long will it take to receive my gallery?

Your completed gallery is typically ready within approximately two weeks of your photography session.

How long will my online gallery be available?

Your gallery does not expire, but it will be archived after one year.

I strongly recommend downloading your images and saving them somewhere safe once you receive your gallery. It's always a good idea to keep more than one backup of your most meaningful photographs.

Can I download and print my own photographs?

Absolutely!

You will receive high-resolution digital images that you can download and print.

Can you help me order prints?

Yes! If you'd like help ordering prints or turning your photographs into something you can display in your home, I'm happy to help.

Your photographs deserve to live somewhere beyond your phone.
